What are the Rules for Snooker?

Snooker is a game that is usually played between 2 people on a table that is typically 12' x 6'. The object of the game is for you to win more frames than your opponent. To win a frame you need to score more points than your opponent. To score points you use a cue stick to hit the white ball into one of the coloured balls on the table causing it to go into one of the pockets (called "potting").

The amount of points you win will depend on the colour of the ball you pot. The black ball is worth 7 points, the pink ball 6 points, the blue ball 5 points, the brown ball 4 points, the green ball 3 points, the yellow ball 2 points and all of the 15 red balls on the table are worth 1 point each. It's important to note that during the first phase of the frame, the non-red balls are reset after being potted, but the red balls are not.

To start your turn you must pot a red ball. If you succeed you gain 1 point and then have a chance to pot a different coloured ball. If you are successful you gain the number of points the ball is worth and then you must sink another red ball, then a different coloured ball and so on, back and forth. If you fail to sink the appropriate ball your turn is ended and your opponent takes over the table.

Once all of the red balls have been potted the second phase of the frame begins and the coloured balls are no longer reset after being sunk. During the second phase of the frame, you must try to sink all the coloured balls in ascending order according to their value. Once the black ball has been potted the frame is over and the person who scored the most points wins that frame. Games may consist of 7, 9 or 11 frames and the person who wins the majority of frames wins the game.
